types of submissions

  1. Research Articles
    1. Describe the project you are working on, or the part of someone else's project that you are working on. Need to have a story to tell, preferably a significant one!
    2. THIS IS AN OFFICIAL PUBLICATION, WORK PUBLISHED HERE NEEDS TO BE ORIGINAL.
    3. All work published as a "Research Article" must be read and approved by your Principal Investigator.
  2. Reviews
    1. Scientific Reviews are scholarly commentary on work already published or in progress.
    2. You can describe work of any topic within the field of Biology - preferably, of work conducted by UCSD Principal Investigators (PI's), or work relevant to UCSD
  3. Editorials/Commentaries
    1. Open to submissions from the public
    2. These articles express opinions on research fields or other scientific topics.
    3. What do you think should come next? You should express original thoughts on what you would like to see next, or what you think we should expect
  4. "Organism of the Quarter"
    1. Describe a model organism of choice - include a brief history of the organism, why it is useful, what advancements have been made on this organism, and who uses this organism at UCSD (organisms already featured: C. elegans, Xenopus laevis, and Mus musculus (mouse)).
  5. Features
    1. Feature articles are intended for the general scientific and non-scientific audience. Please propose ideas for this type of article to the editors. What interests you? What do you want to know more about?
    2. Each quarter a staff writer will conduct an interview with a professor at UCSD (or an affiliated institution) or with an undergraduate who is conducting research at UCSD. Faculty who have already been interviewed: Drs. Nicholas Spitzer, Randolph Hampton, Milton Saier, and Nigel Crawford.

We accept submissions on a rolling basis, though deadlines for each of the quarterly issues are listed on this website.
